Gastroschisis

We have already talked about omphaloceles. We should remember gastroschisis where there is an abdominal wall opening to the right of the umbilicus.  The opening of the abdominal wall is very small and through it the intestine passes.  The intestine is in direct contact with the amniotic fluid in the intrauterine life of the fetus.
