Pena operation - Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty

The operation accepted today for imperforate anus is based on the open technique of PENA.

PENA showed that it is possible to define the sphincter muscle complex through a long sagittal sacroperineal incision.  The blind end of the rectum is then attached to the skin so that it is passing through the center of the sphincter complex.The sphincter complex is then reconstructed appropriately in an improved fashion.
